 Beef with tomatoes



2 pounds lean round steak


1 tablespoon oil


2 cup water


1 medium onion, chopped


1 medium size green pepper, chopped


1 teaspoon sugar


1 teaspoon ground allspice


½ teaspoon dried whole basil


1 sliced lemon


1 cup chopped fresh tomato



Trim excess fat from meat; cut into serving size pieces.


Brown meat on both sides in hot oil in a large Duth oven. Drain on paper towels, and wipe the pan dry with a paper towel. 


Return meat to Dutch oven, and add remaining ingredients except tomato; cover and simmer for 2 to 2 ½ hours or until meat is tender.


Remove steak and vegetables to platter: top with tomatoes.


Yield: 8 servings
