Candied Orange Slices

Candied orange slices
6 oranges
Water
1½ cups packed dark brown sugar
2 cups water
Granulated sugar
Place oranges in a large saucepan or kettle. Cover with water. Cover and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 40 minutes, or until the peel is tender. Drain and cool.
Cut oranges in 3/8 inch crosswise slices and cut slices in half; place in bowl. In a medium saucepan mix together brown sugar and water. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a boil. Boil, stirring frequently for 20 minutes or until thick and syrupy. Pour over orange slices. Cover in the refrigerator overnight.
Remove orange slices from syrup and roll in granulated sugar; place on rack to dry overnight. Roll in sugar again just before packing in gift boxes. Makes 6 cups
