Fresh Fruit Compote

 1 (15 ¼ ounce can pineapple tidbits, undrained

3 tablespoons cornstarch


2 teaspoon sugar


½ teaspoon ground nutmeg


1 cup water


3 tablespoon lemon juice


2 medium oranges, peeled, seeded and sectioned


2 medium apples, unpeeled and chopped


2 medium bananas, sliced


1 medium size yellow apple, unpeeled and chopped


1 medium pear, unpeeled and chopped


1 cup seedless green grapes, halved


1 cup red grapes, halved and seeded



Drain pineapple, reserving juice; set aside.


Combine cornstarch, sugar, and nutmeg in a medium saucepan; gradually add water, stirring until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil; boil 1 minute. Remove from heat, and stir in reserved pineapple juice and lemon juice; cool.


Combine reserved pineapple and remaining ingredients in a large bowl; pour dressing over top, tossing gently to coat. Cover and chill thoroughly.


Yield 12 servings
