Old Fashioned Cocoa Mint Cake

 Old fashion cocoa mint cake

2/3 cup butter

1 2/3 cup sugar

3 eggs

2 cups all-purpose flour

2/3 cup cocoa

1¼ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt 

1 1/3 cups milk

½ cup crushed peppermint candy


Cream butter, sugar and eggs until fluffy, and beat vigorously for 3 minutes on high speed. Combine flour, cocoa baking soda, baking powder and salt; add alternately with milk to the creamed mixture. Blend in crushed candy. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9 in cake pans. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pans. Ice cake with cocoa peppermint icing.
