 Three layer gold cake


1½ cups sugar

1 cup powder sugar

½ cup shortening

½ cup butter

5 egg yolks

3 cups sifted all-purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1¼ cup milk 

1 teaspoon vanilla

5 egg whites


Sift together sugar and powdered sugar together in a large bowl. Cream well with shortening and butter. Add the egg yolks and beat well. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt, then add alternately with the milk and vanilla to the creamed mixture. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter. Pour into 3 greased and floured 9 inch baking pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Frost with chocolate frosting.


NOTE:


Your bowl and mixer has to be completely clean or your egg whites won’t stiffen up. NO oil or fat can be on the mixer or bowl.
